By 1982, Scorpions were a veteran band with other albums that could have been considered for this list including immediate predecessors 'Lovedrive' and 'Animal Magnetism'. When choosing a Scorpions album, it ultimately came down to heavy and fast versus mellow. On the day of its choosing I was more inclined toward heavy and fast.
The title track 'Blackout' kicks things off in style. With 'Can't Live Without You', 'You Give Me All I Need' and 'No One Like You', Scorpions proved that love songs could be driving metal anthems. This album was a classic before even turning it over to the second side. But there was more greatness to come with 'Now!', 'Dynamite', 'Arizona', 'China White' and 'When the Smoke is Going Down'.
Sometimes all of the lyrical cliches wear a little thin but the guitars of Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs more than compensate.
