'The Voice' season 10 winner Alisan Porter releases 'Pink Cloud'

When did you realize music was your gift and something you wanted to pursue?

I had always known. I always loved music, and the thrill is still not gone. I love it more than ever. I live it more than pursue it. It’s what I do and who I am.

Who are some of your musical influences?

I love Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and of course, Christina Aguilera.

Let’s talk about your experience on The Voice. What made you decide that Christina would be your best choice as a coach after all 4 judges turned their chairs?

Seeing all 4 judges pleading for me was surreal and something you watch and see, but living it is a whole other thing. I knew Christine and I were going to click. We were moms, and in the biz since birth. She’s someone I just understand and vice versa.

What was the most important piece of advice Christina gave to you, and are you still in touch?

Just be you! Do your thing! We are still in touch and will always have a bond.

You chose to sing Blue Bayou for your blind audition, and it has been referred to as one of the best auditions of all time. Did you ever receive feedback from Linda Ronstadt about the performance?

I was actually able to sing it once for her and it was a huge honor.

What were some songs that you wanted to sing on The Voice, but did not get the chance?

Gosh, I think I covered it. I’ll have to think about that one. Desperado was kind of a peek moment.

What was the feeling at the moment of winning?

Again, surreal. A dream and a huge life altering time.

How do you balance the demands of a singing career and being a mom, and how do your kids feel about your success?

My kids are amazing, pliable and they love music. Balance is key, and I think I do Ok. My life isn’t normal, but I think it’s cool and for now, so do they.

Tell us about your new album 'Pink Cloud'. What can we expect; writing process, inspiration, etc.

Pink Cloud is just really special. It’s a moment in time. It’s a musical journey. I collaborated with people I adore and respect, and we just made it. It’s a throwback in it’s feel. It’s country soul or soul country. It’s roots and vibey and goes well with a road trip.
